A new website called DreamJobbing is letting their community pick who gets the job. In this post, we reveal what recruiters can learn from this innovative process.
If you’ve felt like that recently, you might be interested in a new site called DreamJobbing. Essentially, it’s a recruiting platform for “once-in-a-lifetime dream jobs.”
Deeming itself “a destination for the world’s most exciting jobs and experiences,” it lists positions ranging from wildlife volunteer in Thailand to backup singer for Michael Bolton and social buzz reporter for VH1. For the most part, the stints are temporary and range from one to three weeks.
If a candidate is interested in a job, they must fill out an application and create a short video. Then it’s up to them to share the video on their social media networks — because the more votes a candidate gets, the better their chances of being chosen for the DreamJob.
This is what we mean when we say they’re crowdsourcing recruiting: together, it is the candidate’s and DreamJobbing’s communities who choose which applicants make it to the final rounds. (Just imagine if you didn’t have to sift through piles of poorly-written cover letters and could let your community choose for you!)
What recruiters can learn from DreamJobbing
Though you probably don’t have the ability to offer once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like the gigs on DreamJobbing, you can still learn something from the site’s innovative application process.

- Video is big: If you haven’t started using video in your recruitment process yet, you’re behind the times. Start with video interviews and move on from there.
- Buzz creates demand: The more buzz you develop around your company and open positions, the more people will apply — and the easier it’ll be to find the perfect candidate.
- Crowdsource it: Having a hard time choosing between candidates? Don’t hesitate to get input from your team — or even poll the candidate’s potential co-workers about who they liked best.
As DreamJobbing proves, thinking outside-the-box can make recruiting easier — and even a little fun.
