Work with your spouse? Here are some tips for keeping the love alive.
Is love is in the air—both at work and at home? Be careful; clashing opinions, heavy burdens and daily stresses can easily take a toll on your relationship with your loved one and the success of your business.
Since we’re partners in business and in life (we’re both representatives with Avon), we’d like to give you some Valentine’s Day tips on how to if you work together:
1. Be on the same page
Although it may sometimes be challenging, being on the same page and working as a team are key. We constantly discuss our goals and do whatever we can for one another to help accomplish them.
By appreciating the exciting experiences that come with working together, we are able to face not only as a business team, but also as a couple. The successes we have built together have made our family and our relationship happier and stronger than ever.
2. Plan ahead
Planning and preparation are crucial when it comes to our business. This not only helps to ensure a successful event, but also alleviates any unnecessary stress.
For instance, the night before an event, we double-check important logistics such as directions, supplies, etc. Checking as many items off your list in advance as possible will make it easier for you to focus on any last-minute needs that may come your way.
3. Communicate daily
Honest, direct communication is a significant part of any relationship, whether a or a marriage. If you don’t communicate, it’s not going to work.
Along with communication also comes understanding. It actually took about two years for us to truly understand how to come together to grow our Avon business. Milagros was instrumental in opening my eyes to the opportunities that came along with the business she had been developing for years.
4. Unplug after work
Whether handling multiple roles and responsibilities, working long, undesirable hours or coping with daily pressures and demands, there’s no doubt about it: work can cause significant stress and anxiety. It’s important to not allow the stress of work to interfere with your personal life, as this will just create more problems and put a strain on your relationship.
Set a time each night to unwind together—this ritual is a key part of our relationship. Every night, we sit down and talk about our day. Whether over a drink or a meal, talking and listening to your partner really helps to keep your marriage alive and well.
5. Appreciate the time you spend together
Most couples have separate occupations, so even during hectic and stressful times, a few minutes of sharing and connecting can help keep your bond strong. We’re fortunate because our business has not only made us closer, but also allows us to spend more time together.
Make the time you spend together fun and exciting. With an Avon business, we’re lucky to have flexible hours during the day, which allows us to sometimes take lunch dates on the beach. Remember: no matter your occupation, always make it a priority to spend even a few minutes a day together.
Milagros and Carlos Garcia are Avon Representatives from Naples, Florida. As partners in both business and life, they enjoy the flexible schedule and financial freedom provides, allowing them to spend time with their three children and focus on creating a thriving business.
