- Extension: Extensions add new features to a browser. An example of an extension would be a pop-up blocker. Extensions generally don’t cross over into different browsers. In other words, downloading a Firefox extension would not work if you were using Google Chrome.
- Add-on: This term refers to little pieces of code, or what look like little buttons, that are added onto a browser’s toolbar to help give you shortcuts to certain online programs. For example, I use a Buffer add-on that allows me to schedule tweets quickly and easily. Add-ons are also usually browser-specific.
- Plug-in: This term refers to third-party software that enables you to interact with a certain program. A common plug-in would be Adobe Flash Player or QuickTime to play videos.
To the average user, it doesn’t quite matter whether you’re using an extension or a plug-in. But today, we’ll be focusing specifically on extensions.

When it comes time to download an Internet extension, all you need to do is Google the extension you’re looking to find. You can download that extension and be ready to use it within just a few minutes (if not seconds).
The real question, however, is not how to download an extension, but rather what extension to download. If you find yourself unsure, don’t sweat it. Below are five extensions that are sure to help anyone looking for a job, whether you’re still in school, a recent graduate or have been in the workforce for years.
Keep your email organized and schedule emails to send in the future.
As someone who was quite recently playing the looking-for-employment game, I know that part of that game is receiving a ton of email. You naturally have your resume on 10 different job board websites, so people are contacting you about positions, you’re sending emails to ads you see on Craigslist, your recruitment agency has a lot to say and your poor mom just wants to know how the job hunt is going.

This is one of my favorite extensions to use when looking for jobs because it allows you to pause any web page while it’s in progress. If you’re in the middle of filling out an involved application and you suddenly need to leave, you can use this extension to save all of the work you’ve already done. You won’t need to log back in and you won’t lose any of the information you’ve already typed into the application.
Remember: for extensions to work, you need to use a particular browser. For example, if you’re hoping to download an extension that’s designed for Google Chrome but you’re using Firefox, you will need to find the Firefox equivalent.
