Dustin Canter, Brazen’s business development whiz and a seasoned entrepreneur, gives a powerful networking tip.
This is part of a featuring members of the Brazen Careerist team. Brazen staff were asked to provide a little information about themselves and one piece of career advice based on what has helped them most in their careers so far.
So what do you do at Brazen?
I’m the director of business development. My job is to create business with global 1000 companies.
What did you do before Brazen?
I started a restaurant (Howbowda Bagel) and moving & storage business (My College Storage).
Tell us something unique about you.
I can eat six saltine crackers in 20 seconds.
What is one thing that has helped you advance in your career?
Creating a personal brand card. I was at a transitional point. I’d just moved to a new city and was looking for good opportunities. So I created a business card with my name, email, phone number and personal website. I also included four words on the card that describe what I want other people to know about who I am, what I am looking for and why they can turn to me for advice or questions in a particular field. My card says:
Adrenaline Junkie, Entrepreneur, Health Nut, Philanthropist
If you’re in a transition or even if you aren’t, get a card and brand yourself in a unique and interesting way. It’s a conversation starter and will prompt people who might want to work with you, to ask questions.
